Bravo recommends that students start voice lessons at age 8, but students as young as 6 can explore the fundamentals of music while learning to sing their favorite songs. Singing lessons are popular with older kids and teens. Adults can also benefit from taking voice lessons. Learning to sing can instill self confidence and awareness along with other benefits from learning music. A vocal student will learn the fundamentals of singing such as posture, breathing, diction, breath support and more. Students who take voice lessons will also be introduced to matching pitch, solfege and sight singing. Beginning students should expect to practice 5-10 minutes 2-3 times each week and more advanced students 30-60 minutes 4-5 times per week. A vocal student will occasionally need to purchase backing tracks and sheet music for songs they are working on to practice at home. Vocal students can benefit from having a piano or keyboard available at home to practice matching pitches and to do warm up exercises.
