Piano lessons are great for all ages. Bravo starts students as young as 4 years old if the child is ready to sit, listen, and participate. Typically a child who has already had a year of preschool or kindergarten might be ready at age 4 or 5, but an ideal age to start piano lesson would be 6 years old. Kids, teens and adults all love taking piano lessons. Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of music such as melody, harmony, and rhythm along with the basic techniques of sitting, posture and hand position. Student will also play music they like such as rock and pop, as well as learning to read notes and play chords. More advanced students can explore advanced techniques and music such as classical, jazz, blues, pop, rock and more. Piano students should be practicing steady. Beginners around 5-10 minutes 2-3 times a week and advanced students logging in about 30-60 minutes 4-5 times a week. Students will need a piano or a keyboard to practice on at home. The most ideal option would be an 88 key acoustic piano with bench. They can be found used for less than $200 and sometimes free. You just have to haul it home and get a piano tuner to come out for about $100. If you don't have the room or resources for an acoustic piano an electronic keyboard with 88, 72, or 61 keys a keyboard stand and bench will do. Just make sure it has a feature sometimes called "touch sensitive" this allows the student to play both loudly and softly. Keyboards can range from $150 and up for new and $100 or less used.
